About TGERR
Revolutionary Changes
The Trans and Gender-Expansive Recovery Retreat (TGERR) is a 3-day retreat held in New York City started by and intended for the trans and gender-expansive recovery community. It provides a space for self-reflection, connection, and empowerment via panels, workshops, and fellowship events.

How did TGERR begin?
In 2022, a group of trans sober alcoholics recognized the need for a recovery retreat specifically for trans and gender-expansive folks.
In March 2023, we hosted our first retreat in NYC on Mohican land. 60 participants from across the US attended for a beautiful weekend of community, resilience, and hope. It was clear we needed to make TGERR an annual event.
Who can attend TGERR?
This retreat is open to all transgender and gender-expansive individuals in recovery.
If you are cisgender, you can support TGERR by making a donation to help us cover our operating expenses.
Can I attend virtually?
Yes! While a lot of the fellowship magic happens in person, we also offer an online option via Zoom. Select the "virtual" attendance option when you register.
Is TGERR an official AA conference?
While our retreat is rooted in 12-step recovery principles and traditions, we embrace multiple modalities of recovery. However you define "recovery," you are welcome to attend.
BIPOC Outreach

BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) trans individuals face unique challenges in addiction recovery that are shaped by the intersections of their racial, gender, and socioeconomic identities. TGERR addresses these challenges by striving to create an inclusive, culturally competent, and trauma-informed space that provides a safe, healing environment for the BIPOC trans recovery community.
Testimonials
"Taking part in TGERR last year helped me feel like I had a home in recovery. Honestly, it helped me get reconnected to my own sobriety."
"I didn't expect to feel for the first time that I had full permission to be the way I am, and be proud of it without apologizing."
"I didn't realize how much I needed to be in community with other transfolk until I was with people all weekend. The joy was deeply healing."
"A celebration of the trans community, focusing on US and our growth and healing, creating an intentional space of reflection, support and solidarity."
"My wonderful sponsor told me about this opportunity and the greatest gift they have given me is the knowledge that life as a queer person doesn't have to mean hardship and struggling alone."
"Feeling a sense of togetherness and community grounds me in community. I felt such a sense of joy and strength connecting with people at the retreat, meeting new people, and discovering people I already knew who I didn't know were in the program!"
"TGERR 2023 was one of the first times I felt seen, accepted, and even celebrated for being myself--including the parts of my identity that I used to apologize to people for. TGERR provided a space for me to feel empowered enough to recover for myself--because I deserve it."
